HISTORICAL NOTE

In autumn 1717 Peter I ordered Domenico Trezzini to build an "exemplary" house for the "prosperous" on the 12th line of Vasilyevsky island and settle in it. Trezzini built the house but never moved there. In 1721 tsar Peter willing to reward his follower count Osterman for his loyalty presented the "exemplary" house to him. Upon taking away the ready mansion, Peter I ordered: "To build him, Trezin, from the treasury … a house of stone in the Dutch manner …of 2 bricks».
